Tips For Completing Your Scholarship Application

As the deadline for The LAGRANT Foundation’s Scholarship Applications quickly approaches, I have decided to put together a list of tips for students submitting their applications. At TLF, we want to make sure that students who apply have all the information they need from us to ensure their applications are in tip-top shape! I hope these tips can provide insight and help guide students while completing their applications.
  • Ask for your letter of recommendation ahead of time – It is best to give the person writing your letter of recommendation at least a week or two to complete it. Let them know what scholarship you are applying for and when you would like to have the letter. Be mindful of their time and give them background information.
  • Transcripts – You may submit unofficial transcripts. However, if you are selected as a finalist you must submit official transcripts. Transcript requests vary from school to school, therefore, do your research and see how long it takes for your school to send out transcripts.
  • Proofread! Have a second pair of eyes take a look at your application. Make sure you proofread it and get feedback. You may have missed a typo or misspelled a word. You want this application to be your best work.
  • Make sure all components are included – A scholarship application is not considered complete until all components are received. This includes the application form, essay, paragraph describing honors/awards, paragraph describing community involvement, letter of recommendation, resume and transcripts.
  • Note the deadline – Your application must be submitted by 11:59pm PST on FEBRUARY 29, 2012!
  • Follow up – Feel free to call the TLF office to ensure that your application was received.
  • Ask questions – If you are unsure about anything on the application or have additional questions, call TLF and get the answers you need.
  • Acceptance letters – If you are a transfer student or recently accepted into grad school, please make sure you provide a copy of your acceptance letter. It must state the program to which you were accepted and the degree you will be pursuing.
