I first heard about The LAGARANT Foundation through Nancy Tag, the BIC Program Director, who is also my advisor for the Management/Planning track. I wanted to apply to the scholarship because it seemed like a great network to become a part of and learn from. I believe in TLF’s mission because marketing reflects the society we live in, and I want to help shape what that looks like by bringing underrepresented black and brown faces to the table. I was born in India, and am proud of being an immigrant in this country. With this scholarship, I am now able to meet and get career advice from experienced industry professionals, many of whom have broken down barriers to get to the position they are in.
Once I earn my degree, I hope to work in branding strategy, as my passion is helping businesses grow, stand for something bigger than just sales, and ultimately find their place in the market. Bringing diversity into marketing is important because any effective campaign is a collaboration between a team, and having a diverse team brings about many perspectives to dealing with any business challenge.
Beyond receiving the scholarship, I want to continue to stay involved with TLF to help other students who are interested in a marketing career. I think the work TLF is doing is important because the industry as a whole has been dominated too long by homogeneous teams that fail to speak for the audience they want to reach.
I want to thank the wonderful BIC faculty and my peers in the class of 2021, who continue to inspire me every day. It is a blessing to be surrounded by so many hard-working professionals from different parts of the world, all of whom bring a unique set of skills to any project.
