I first heard about TLF through the scholarship search engine FastWeb. I wanted to apply to the scholarship firstly because it was directly tied into my intended career path, but also because of the attached networking and learning that came with the planned conference. I believe in TLF’s mission because I recognize the lack of diversity in the field of PR and hope to help change that. With this scholarship, I am now able to save money that would’ve otherwise been spent on tuition, to pay for dues to enter Sigma Tau Delta and PRSSA, which will help to build my skills and network.
Once I earn my degree, I hope to either pursue my own career as a creative writer, or to help others pursue their own creative goals as a PR agent. I want to pursue these goals because creativity and diversity have always been the foremost important aspects in my career path. I believe that it is necessary to have a diverse array of voices in fields specific to communication, because otherwise we risk our communications not being able to reach everyone.
Beyond receiving the scholarship, I want to continue to stay involved with TLF because I strongly believe in the power of building a diverse network of people around me, especially in the field of PR. I think the work TLF is doing is important because it is necessary for us to be able to give a voice to minorities through minorities.
