Welcome to The LAGRANT Foundation Blog

TLF 2020 Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient Madeline Song
My name is Madeline Song, and I am an incoming 3rd-year student at UCLA, where I am pursuing my degree in Communications.

My goal is to become a leader in the advertising and marketing industry in an effort to progress diversity and help expand positive impact and representation. I have a particular interest in lifestyle brands and want to leverage the power of the media and social voice to elevate the concerns, beliefs, and cultures of underrepresented minorities in order to more accurately represent the world. I want to share stories and messages that resonate with diverse people in creative, inventive ways to increase inclusivity and help these brands generate greater success.

The LAGRANT Foundation is an incredible resource that has helped me progress towards my goals. It is a unique program dedicated to increasing the success and visibility of minorities in the industry and creates an important pipeline for talent. I believe that if there are more people that look like me working in this industry, making decisions and serving as models for the rest of the multicultural world, then significant change will result.

Beyond receiving the scholarship, I want to continue to stay involved with TLF to give back to the community that has helped get me to where I am today. I hope to inspire others to show that we can break the status quo and become positive leaders in this industry.

I would also like to thank my mother, a professional in multicultural marketing, who opened my eyes to the possibilities I can pursue. I also want to thank Kim Hunter for his commitment to students like me and for introducing me to positive mentors, such as Soon Mee Kim, Executive Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Porter Novelli. Thanks to them, I am able to learn and grow personally and professionally every day.
